VFX 448 | Update 4.0

January 20th 2026

Still overall working on the same stuff, got some basic lights in, started populating the outcoves and fully re rendered the stills LIT. I also re rendered the first scene switching to full 3D instead of that clip from the movie. That also gives me more room to match the first and second shot text. I do have to fully recreate the text on the computer so I can overlay that.

Same old. Started some texturing of the harder textures that need to be fully redone. First passing the big ones, will definetly not have all the textures done by class 5 but all the meshes should be fully remeshed and ill start placing them.

Remeshing!

I had a horrible weekend, but after coming home Sunday, I was able to start the workflow for remeshing my scans, so I'm working on a workflow to grab the textures, normals/bump, and auto UV the new remesh. These are lower resolution image textures but can easily be scaled up. Some of these larger scans will require full retexturing in substance since the res is low, and others will just need delighting, which I can do in Agisoft.

I have more but I didnt want to keep adding images here + it takes 25 minutes to bake them out at higher res.

Other than that I started on a specific marble texture in COP's to replace the temporary one I had on. Right now its just white! Im working on the colors and have to make the 4 proper colors after the base textures are all finalized.

I'm gonna try to finish this up, then finalize the first shot meshes and dust stuff this coming class and weekend. Also have to download more scans and remesh and repaint those!

In class I determined what I want to start focusing on. Since last quarter, I spent so much time trying to perfect my beats and cuts, I think the beginning of this quarter I should let that rest and really start focusing on Models, Textures, and Materials, and remeshing my scans.

RIght now I been started on making a procedural Marble so I can easily spread it around my floor. The pantheon has four main colors of marble/granite (white, red, gray, yellow) and I am trying to replicate those. RIght now mine is all one style as I figure out my different color sections and their scaling compared to the main floor so it is plain white now.

Here are some of the scans ive started downloading to re texture and remesh. (Thanks to Emily Kraus for getting me these.) Ive got more contemporary art aswell as paintings that I will start on.

VFX 448 | Update 1.0

January 4th 2026

Right before I left, I was unsure of the progress I would be able to make over break. Sure enough, I made little to none! Not that I wasn't eager to work, but I didn't have the time. I was able to read more during my numerous 4+ hour-long plane rides and subsequent layovers, which was nice. I was really shocked by how closely my idea aligns with Tarkovsky's ideas when working on Solaris and Stalker.

Right before break I was able to do a simple concept of the style id like to have in my space shot. I really want detailed planets, and was looking at ways of achieving that. While the reference looks like the moon from "A Trip to the Moon" I like the way it looks like a model with the little Earth in the background.

And since I wanted to emulate an older film style look I found a nuke node that trys to replicate older technicolor film where im kind of inspired by Robinson Crusoe on Mars which had some really dark darks. Its not much of a difference but I think its a cool post effect.

I also just started creating a procedural shader for the Pantheon floor in COPs yesterday my photoshop prior was not versitile enough. This should give me the opportunity to make specific spots for where the monolith sits and then start to visualize and quickly edit the displacement and dirt ill add. I really wanted to add some subtle water or even step erosion so those ground shots get more variation. (Cool Hagia Sophia Reference). Very eager to get this stuff started!!!!!
